Bye Bye to the Binky and the Blanket

Since he was a couple of weeks old, Landon has seldom been seen without the Binky and Blanket duo. There was no way he would sleep without that blanket. We could leave the binky home but the blanket had to come, at least in the car. He loves the tags on the blanket and thought that other people would love to have the tags rubbed on their cheeks as well. There have been some fire alarms with it, most memorably the night we went to Stop and Shop and left it there, in one of those car-shaped carts. I called the store, they claimed to have looked for it, so we were resigned to the fact that it was gone. The next afternoon I returned to Stop and Shop, looked in one the car-carts in the lobby and there it was, untouched. Disaster averted.

We decided in January that it was time for the Binky to go, so we ex-couraged the use of it. We didn't withhold it, we just told him it was for little boys "Then I am a little boy" he would maintain, until one night it was missing and he was so tired that he fell asleep without it. The next night he said "I don't need my binky" and that was pretty much the end of the Binky. What we didn't realize was that the Blanket was considered a partner with the binky and was forgotten as quickly as the Binky. That was unexpected and sad. I didn't care if he had the Blanket 'til he was 10, but to him it was all tied together.

So now the boy goes to bed without either, sometimes he will find that blanket but for the most part, it is unimportant to him.

With due respect to the blanket and its partner, the Binky, we present a fitting tribute.
