Head Wounds and the chimp

Let's talk about Head-Wound-Prone-Syndrome. In layman's terms it is known as "someone's gonna lose an eye." The worst part of the syndrome is the alarming rate at which forehead injuries spurt blood.

Last year, Landon was bit by a cute little canine in an attack that was random and unexplained. Well, not really unexplained because Landon "had it coming", if I could say that without appearing like the world's worst mother. I was freaked about how close the bite came to his eye. Anyway- this healed up quickly on the outside and pretty much instantly on the inside. I do believe that Landon was pestering that dog again the same evening.

Then the forehead wound from sliding headfirst along the carpet into the wooden stair baluster. Ouch. It looked worse on the 4th day, when we were in Canada.

That's Heidi. She hasn't bit anyone in years.

And then the Great Bungee Cord incident. Landon had the bungee cord (bad toy idea) and decide to lock Adam or Dave in the bathroom by hooking the hook around the door handle. ***The details are murky and still emerging.*** The bungee cord did not hold and it sprang back, catching Landon in the forehead and right beside his eye. There was lots of blood, all running down onto his nose and cheeks, it was very pitiful. Now it is all swollen and yellowish. You'll notice his right eye is still recovering from a run-in with a foosball table. Poor guy- doesn't he look pitiful?

I do have some fun pics from vacation week; Adam made the honor roll again; and I'm dying to tell you about the chimpanzee attack that occurred in CT. I'm a little obsessed. I've gained much chimp knowledge in the last week. Just google it if you haven't heard about it as my family would like me to move on from the chimp already. Oh, and search YouTube for "chimp attacks". You will never look at a chimp the same way again.

Mystery Food

A few months ago Landon was in a rut of asking for "Kick-O-Zee" every time we went to the grocery store. I had no idea what this item was other than that it made him cry and screech when we ended our grocery shopping without it. In order to identify the mysterious item I asked him leading questions such as is it a food? what color? box or bag? paper or plastic? He described it as food having a black bird on the box. When I had finally asked him all the questions that I was sure would reveal this mystery item, I was still at a loss so I moved on to the Big Guns......the siblings. I asked David "Kick-O-Zee....any idea what that might be..black bird?..ring any bells, Dave". He looks at me and says "Oh, yeah, that is Kid's Cuisine." And it was. We lived happily ever after.

On the next grocery trip, I reluctantly bought a Kids Cuisine. Reluctantly. I bought it only because I knew he would never believe how gross these packaged meals are until he ate one for himself. The actual heating process is a pain before you even get to the food part. Remove the brownie, the frosting, the cheese, etc. And in the end the little goober left most of it in the wacky little tray and asked for a pb&j sandwich. Ahhhh, there is hope!

Box with a black bird on it- why, of course!

I love Eric Carle.....by Maura

Are you familiar with the work of Eric Carle? He is a Massachusetts author/illustrator who produces amazing thoughtful images and stories. Teachers love him, and art teachers love him even more. Take a Google and look at his work. He has an ardent fan in Maura. She wants to meet him, go to his art museum (there is one) and in fact, she has written a book that is well, an ode to Eric Carle.

"I like Eric Carle. He works hard. I wish I could be like him."

"He is good at art work......"
"What book will he do next?"

Sunday School Picnic

Video One:
"Now my a Pirate." I love him.
He tells Grandpa- "you can be a pirate too. Dat guy over there (jim Smart) will make you one (an eye patch)" Then he tells me "you got a lot of gift mom"..very very random...

While singing choruses during the picnic, I videoed him hoping he would sing along and I might catch it. But no, watch what happens.

Gathering Leaves and "cones"- a tour with Landers

peaceful morning

Daddy and Landon at the lake:

showing me how to throw rocks :)

walking back to the car with Dad. I lagged behind to snap some pics and he was telling Gordie "tell she to come"

hmm, wonder why all the ducks are leaving?

google; gewgle; gougle, 404 not found

a random cuteness error: this afternoon Maura was trying to find playhousedisney.com this is what she entered in the searchbox: playhwsedsny .com.

I'm on my laptop and don't have access to recent pics but HE (seen below just three short years ago) learned to whistle today. He is very proud of himself.

the Butterfly Cafe

Maura found a butterfly out on the driveway and fearing it was dead, she ordered me inside to get a banana to feed it, revive it and keep for a pet in a can with holes in the top.

We set out the banana on a plate. The butterfly crawled over to it and sat on the bananas for a while and then proceeded to fly away, leaving her little caretaker with lots of banana and no pet.

"I will build a butterfly cafe and then lots of butterflies will come and feed there."

So here it is:

The only patron we had brought his own lunch. An Albino Grasshopper?? Who knew? I thought it was a tiny green leaf until I looked at the picture. ewww.
