Back in Feb. we spotted a large white dog on the runway staring cooly at Oliver, who was barking madly at this strange new animal. It didn't take us long for it to click that this was no dog, it was much bigger and had a different stance from a dog. I grabbed a camera, tried to take a pic thru the window so the dog wouldn't get out but the flash went off and wrecked the shot. After this, the wolf turned and ran down the runway in the opposite direction.
According to the Animal Control officer there are a family of Grey Wolves (although one is black and another is white/beige) living in the large block of forest behind our neighborhood. Many people around the area have seen them, and many recorded sightings all over CT. According to the govn't, there should not be any wolves in the Northeast, only in the Western US. Tell that to the Shelburne, MA sheep farmer who shot a large dog/coyote/wolf in October. Extensive testing has been done on the carcass and it has been determined that it is pure wolf, not a hybrid wolf-dog.
Wolves are not nice animals, (remember apex predators?) to put it in perspective, they are the cougar's only predator. And don't even get the Animal Control officer started on cougars. (Think: the Dump, a pair of cougars, their 6 mile range.........)
