Landon and I dropped Gord off at the airport this morning, early-ish, and then went about doing random errands. Stopping at the grocery store first, we carefully and with conviction chose the appropriate child-centered grocery cart. (Yellow and green truck vs. large blue car cart?) He told me to decide then
promptly chose the opposing one. As we neared the greeting card section I thought briefly about several family member's birthdays my mind has skipped over and shoved the guilt way down deep until Landon thoughtfully says "Let's get a birthday card for whoever's birthday it is!" So I skip about 3 names down my mental checklist and say "Jonah- let's get a card for Jonah". He picks a card that says "A smile, a touch, a gentle laugh remembered...." with a delicate feather gracing the cardstock, I advise a card of
lighter fare, less remembering, more looking forward. Card picked, we move on. As we get closer to the art supplies he sees a glue stick that he would like Jonah to have. I think "glue stick? not for a birthday" and out loud I say "no, I don't think Jonah is old enough for glue sticks." That is enough to satisfy him for about 3 strides and then he looks at me and says "Wait, isn't Jonah 4- I had glue sticks when I was 4" So Jonah is getting a glue stick. It is wearing a cowboy hat and boots. We also picked up other stuff for him but that's a surprise.
We came across this sign:

Driving home: "When we get home I'm gonna sing a song about when you die. It's gonna be a song about a dog named Oliver."
He wanted to watch a movie driving back home but since the player in G's vehicle doesn't work so well, he decided to put the screen down and pretend to watch. As we were exiting the parking lot of the store he gave up on pretending. "This idea is not working of pretending to watch a movie." I love that the concepts are there but the actual grammar necessary is not quite up to speed with the concept.
As we were driving home and I was laughing at him for the gwillionth time today, I turned to him and said "I am the luckiest mom ever" and he said "well ya don't look lucky."
