getting ready to go | Easter recap

The children are all off school next week and we have big plans! Right now, we are supposed to be driving to Pennsylvania for the weekend. On Monday we will travel to Washington DC for a couple of days. We've been looking forward to it for so long.

But we aren't driving right now. We've delayed our departure till tomorrow morning. Things came up, things that required testing and a doctor visit and medication and a good sleep tonight. In fact, plans have changed so dramatically that the boys have hit the road, in the opposite direction, to attend a Red Sox game with Maria. That eases some of my guilt for going and getting sick just before a BIG vacation!

I am happy the boys got to go with Maria- it is such an amazing opportunity and it makes me *almost* thankful for the delay. Almost as thankful as I am for the magical drug Vicodin.

Then my wonderful mother-in-law made dinner for us all and served it at her house and denied me my clean-up privileges. (privileges was a very hard word to spell- who knew?) We are planning to hit the road at 8am tomorrow and proceed with our plans. We've booked a really great hotel (making use of the Hilton Honors points that Gord has accumulated) and we are all looking forward to all the sights in the DC and a huge bonus is that the cherry blossoms are out and DC will be gorgeous.

***********

I am not well versed in Easter traditions. Maura and I have dyed eggs for a couple of years now and that has been fun but I was anxious to explore the more chocolate oriented traditions. On Good Friday, it was reported to me that all the kids in David's class had been invited to an Easter Egg Hunt...except him. I am unsure of the accuracy of the report but it sure did tug at my chocolate-coated Mama Bear heartstrings. With the help of Adam, I threw together a very quick Easter Egg hunt for the kids. I cannot fully tell you how key Adam was in this, and yet I do not have any photos of him. Life just isn't fair.

These aren't in a good order- Blogger is confusing like that:

here David evaluates his finds.
Landon found one hidden in the grass.
Maura found one in the stone wall:

Landon is crying because I waited .028 seconds to open the door.

David's stash is meted out for conference consumption.
Landon digs in:

The natural looking eggs (hey, it's all relative) are made by Willie Wonka and are pre-stuffed. They are made to blend in with the natural surroundings. David claimed them afterwards to use in his Lego plays.

Landon's pile:
Adam's pile (a heaping serving of OCD)
The sinner's prayer, or whatever.
He was so overwhelmed with his candy-stingy mother's sudden reversal that he threw his hands to his eyes in thankfulness and burst out in fervent prayer:
"Thank you God for Mom, I hope she never dies. I hope all the good people don't die, just the bad ones. Amen."

Sweet and harsh, all at once.
