Gospel Pollinating

When I was a kid we had a few of these little books produced by Chick Publications. They also produced them in larger comic book style and we loved getting them from the Christian Bookstore. They were slightly graphic and contained harsh information but I guess it was mostly true and certainly the information about salvation was true in it.

Fast forward about 30 years and I am driving with my own little family through New York state and we stop at one of those thru-way pit stops. David purchases a soda from the machine and as he reaches down into the machine to get his soda he spots one of these little booklets. He was so delighted to see it (me too) and we quickly read through it while I exclaimed that we had these at home when I was a kids, etc. I handed it back to him and then continued on with my own Mom duties (kidnap thwarting, stuff like that). Apparently I expected that David would return the booklet to the same spot he found it (read my mind, in other words) because I was dismayed when we got back to the car and found he still had the booklet. I suggested that we should have read it and placed it back there for someone else to read. We agreed that we could take it into the next rest stop and leave it in the vending machine there. David thought that was a good idea and said "it's kind of like we are pollinating with the gospel."
