It was sometime in November that David finished reading the books, Eragon & Eldest. You may have seen this pic of him reading it while sitting on a swing at the park.
He finished them up and decided to write the following letter to the author of the series. Christopher Paolini is the name of the author. I looked online and found an address for Paolini and after David reminded me several times, the big envelope was on its way.
Click on the picture to read the letter.

Also included in the package was a drawing David did of the cover for the next book:

This past Wednesday when David was home from school sick, a letter came for him. It had a hand written address. The return address was the NYC address we had sent the Paolini letter to, but with a Billings, Montana postal cancellation. David came into the room with the letter, wide-eyed and says "Look who it's from".
Inside was a personalized letter and a signed photo from the author.

The book he is suggesting in the letter is one that David received as a gift at Christmas time.
Isn't that cool? I haven't read any of these books, but I think Paolini rocks because of how he responded to David. Yay for good role models and hats off to Paolini's parents who home-schooled him!

Way to go David!! My kids loved those books too. And your drawing was AWESOME!!
James loves these books too! He was so impressed that David wrote to the author. He also reads Donita K Paul's DragonKeeper series - David should check them out!
Wow! I got goosebumps of excitement for David - how great of that author! And David, keep up the amazing artwork!
That is SO very cool!!! I can only imagine how he felt when that letter and picture came... how sweet of Paolini... I almost want to find one of his books and read it, just because of that. Certainly NOT because I'm into dragons. :D Thanks for sharing!
