Maura was working on her homework one night last week and she had to tell about a tradition that we do as a family around Christmas time. Some families hide a pickle in their tree while others attend an annual play and the list of traditions went on but I couldn't think of any that we do consistently. We are just happy that lots of family usually end up here, Vick and her men are guaranteed, but I do think it would be fun to start a tradition. So last night while driving home from meeting, we polled the kids on what they would like to have as a Christmas tradition.
Maura suggested that we prepare and send a care package every year to an Army soldier.
Adam suggested that we have a Christmas Movie Night complete with popcorn, pizza, Jon and Brian.
David suggested making cookies together and decorating them.
I cannot remember what Landon suggested.
So, we began with Cookie Night.
We are all suited up in
red and
green aprons.

Maura has lots of equipment from her Scholastic Cooking Club she joined in kindergarten.

Picking, choosing, struggling over cookie cutters.

We manage to get some cookies cut out and safely onto the cookie sheets.

Oh Joy!

We didn't decorate them tonight, we are extending our tradition until later in the week and we will do our cookie decorating.

A tradition has been born and not surprisingly, it involves food :)
Edited to add: Somebody (large, gray, 4 legs) got into the Christmas Spirit early and had eaten all the cookies when I arrived home from dropping Landon off at school. Adam said "There goes our new tradition down the drain."
